SIGGRAPH Announces 2008 Winners (Computer Animation Festival)

SIGGRAPH announced the Computer Animation Festival's Best of Show, Jury Award, Student Prize, Audience Prize, and a special Well Told Fable Prize for SIGGRAPH 2008, the 35th International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques.

"The caliber of submissions this year was truly phenomenal, which made the jury's job especially difficult," said Jill Smolin, SIGGRAPH 2008 Conference Entertainment Director. "The winners truly showcase what is possible today and provide a glimpse into what artists can achieve in the future. Really, the only limitation is the imagination."

Award and prize winners were chosen from hundreds of submissions from around the globe, presented by both professional studios and students alike. An expert panel of jury members selected the winners for exemplary use of computer-generated imagery, animation, and storytelling. SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics Award Recipient Ken Perlin and a host of industry presenters recognized the nominees and winners in a fun, lively awards ceremony.

Apple iMac Ad

After I saw Apple new iMac ad, I thought why the Mighty Mouse is on the right side? Usually it's on the left side, right? What Apple designers were thinking? After a while I realized why? Tell me which of these two pictures look better to you or let’s say which one is basically more obvious and usable for a 30 seconds ad!

However I would have done it like this. Everything is clear!

No offense, just a idea! Apple has the best designers in the world.

What do you think about my idea?

Microsoft Surface

Blue Eye

The Blue Eye table has a glass surface and overhead camera, a projector and a mirror underneath the table. By placing an object on the table surface you can copy it to the screen beneath. Once the image of the object is imported, “images can then easily be moved, stretched and even animated by a user.”

This table is similar to the upright Microsoft TouchLight technology which lets users move and manipulate three-dimensional images with their hands. We also posted about the iBar interactive bar table, which is geared more towards design and pleasure, letting users create patterns of glowing light when touched. The DeLightTable by Thomas Gardner, an ‘interactive coffee table’, is also similair to the iBar interactive table.
